The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

After leaving Penn State in August 1979 I took up a job at what is now Staffordshire University in England. I was there for 10 years before moving to the University of Exeter for another 10 year stint! I am now Professor of Exercise & Sport Psychology at Loughborough University, in the UK, and was Head of the School of Sport & Exercise Sciences from 2001-2007. While at Penn State I was fortunate to be in classes taught by Dorothy Harris, Dan Landers, Caroline Sherif, and Alan Kazdin, and be supervised for my project by Michael Mahoney. I completed my PhD in the Department of Psychology at Keele University, UK, specializing in social psychology. As an academic I study physical activity and sedentary behaviors in young people and have published articles and books on this subject. I am President of the International Society for Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity for 2009-2010. Penn State was a significant step in my life and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I am not sure what my peers made of the fact that I slept through the TV broadcast of Penn State's 19-0 football victory at Ohio State in 1978! My excuse was that I was tired and, at the time, didn't understand the rules! I am glad to say the latter no longer applies. I am married to Fiona and have two sons (born 1992 and 1994). I love playing golf and played the White Course in 2006.
